Personal Development Diary...

When I first got the brief regarding about the final major project, I did not know what to expect. I was hoping that the final major project would bring out my creative side, as I’ve always been a creative individual. I was also hoping for the project to be practical, as during my university life I’ve always wanted to show my practicality. Nevertheless, I found out that my final major project was a business plan and I had to do some research over the Easter break.

Doing my research, I came up with a range of ideas however all of my ideas had the association with luxury brands. I was determined to focus my business idea on a luxury brand. Some of my ideas includes a retail store for the online luxury retailer Net a Porter or having a luxury fashion magazine. Although my business idea was associated with fashion luxury, I was keen on a concept or independent retailer. Net –a – porter and Dover Street Market first inspired me, as I was attracted to the brands they had in store. So, after doing some in depth research I decided that I wanted to do an independent luxury retail store, yet how would I make it different?

I though specializing in womenswear would be beneficial as I can relate to female garments. Not only did I think specializing in the womenswear market would be great, but stocking only British brands would of allowed me to develop my idea even more. As the main factors of my business idea involved women and British designers, I though having a store that empowered women to look their best, and also be proud of Britain’s heritage would have been an excellent idea.

While doing this project, I had my up and down moments. At first, my work ethic was driven and I was keen on making progress and doing my work to the best of my ability, fulfilling my true potential. Having successful previous assignments, motivated me to do well in this project as this project weighs more to my final grade. However, in between the project and coming to the end, I lost the drive and motivation to do the work. I gave up on myself, and I lost interest in the project and wasn’t bothered with university anymore. With the support of my supervisor, friends and family I was able to push through and get my work done.

During this project I learnt a lot about myself, but one thing I did learn was motivation. With motivation, I understood that you can accomplish any task that’s given to you. With motivation you can do a task to your best ability and am planning to take this life skill with me.

This project is only but a teaser for what’s to come in the final year, and I can’t wait to come to the finishing line to my career at London College of Fashion.
